Pockeridge bottom lake 20/09/2024

this post is just a few weeks behind........

on Friday te 20th september, i made the short journey to what is my most local lke. Pockeridge lakes, I chose to fish on te bottom lake. this also belongs to Chippenhmam angaling club. day tickets are available for this lake. or you can fish it if you are a member of the Chippenham angling club.

anyway enough of that, on to the sesssion. for me this session started just after lunchtime as i was wroking in the morning. Armed with my 3 pints of maggots (there is a chance of may have over estimated) it was a cloudy afternoon with thunderstorms forcasted but this was not going to discourage me from a afternoon at the lake.

The session started with a fellow angler warning me that it wasn't fishing great, as he said that my rod bent over and i started my session was off with a lovely small roach. For those that know Pockeridge bottom lake. i was fishing by the island and making short and frequent cast as i was yet again using a feeder. But this time i was using a maggot feeder.

(Not the biggest but it was a start)

As the session went on the bites did contuine despite the earlier warning from the fellow angler. A few more smaller roach made an appearance. As time did go on i started to hear rumbling of thunder in the distance and a couple of flashes of Sheet lighting. Then the rain began to fall and the thuner got loader, however the fishing did not drop off. with the bites increasing and missing a few bites. the roach did start to get bigger. Some of them had some lovely colour to their fins as you can see from the pictures below

(lovely bright red fins)

We would all agree thi not a specimen but its still gorgeous.

as the small thunder storm continued the fish carried on coming vairing in size simular to the ones pictured, just not a gorgeous in my opinion. But you now what they say about opinoins..................

Then out of nowhere the most agressive bite i had all day. i hooked into what defently wasn't a monster fish but did it have some fight i it. Then i got  glimps of it this time it wasn't a lovely shiny roach it was a lovely perch. Which came as a lovely suprise because how the sesion was going  though i was in for a day of roach.

After slipping this one back, the day did contuine with roach until a tiny little perch though he announce himself . After this i did have a slightly bigger bite o the rod than i had been getting again wasn't a massive fish but it was a little fighter. it was a lovley Roach as pictured below.

(as you can tell i was pretty made up by this fish)

A few more smaller roach made an apperance towards the end of the session. So did my kids. who both caught small roach on the whip.

(My Daughter catching a small raoch on the whip)

(My Son using the whip with assistants as his mum wouldn't le him bing his rod)

The Method

For this session I was using 8LB mainlinne with a inline maggot feeder to a 4LB hooklink and a size 16 hook, with 2 maggots on the hook.
