Pockeridge bottom lake 18th october - Triple perch PB?

 On fridy 18th October, after stopping off in a local tackle shop that has become a regualr occurence at least on friday a month. I bought 2 pints of mixed maggots and a pot of worms. i cam home to change out of my work uniform and to load the car with my fishing kit. i headed off on the short 12 minute drive to the local club lake.


Not sure what one of two lakes on ite to fish top or bottom, after a 5 minute think. I decided to fish the bottom lake. for one reaon that day, hich was its closer to the car park. after  quick look at the lake i went to a peg i fished before and had a good session there. 


so i set up my rod got myself settled in. I decided to use the same method that brought me success the last time i was here. which was a maggot feeder csating to th island. after a few cast the irsdt fish of the day was on the bank.



not a bad fish to start the session i thought.

belive it or not this photowas actually fom the sesson and yes i am just in a t-shirt in october. the sunshine was gorgeous and with no breeze it was very warm on the bank.


as the session went on i caught roach an rudd semi regular. after a while of catching i decide to put a worm on for afew cast just to see i there was something a little bit bigger lurking around. and for 3 bites in a row i was snapped clean off. 



now this annoying me somewhat i decide to change my hooklength from a 3lb breaking strain to 6lb breaking strain and the tried again in the worm. this time i had another nice sized rudd. 



so i decided to stay on a wrom whilst feeding the maggots thrugh the feeder and not long after the rod went again this time it felt that it had more fight in it. whilst playig wasnt until i got it near the net i realsied it was a lovely size perch. when seeing the perch i unhooked it place it in the sling and weighed it. it came in at 1lb 4oz which for me was a new personal best.

after putting the fish back i thought oh well not going to top that i went back to using maggot as hookbait. about 20 miuntes later the rod went round againg and this feeling a vey simlur fight to earlier, it was anoher decent sized perch. again i thought to myself looks a nice size again, s i weighed this fish too. this one came in at 1lb 6oz.


I was so excited with this fish, not only had a broke my new PB 20 minuets after beating it the first time. but it was the first ime i had caught a perch over 1LB and now i had done it twice in 20 minutes. 


as the afternoon went on and it began to get a little bit of a chill in the air. the fishing did slow down and i was catching small roach semi regularly.





but out of no where the roach went right round again. whatever was on the end was a fighter as i was playing the fish and got it close to the et it was another nice size perch. this one did look bigger than the last 2. so i decide to weigth it. (can you tell i got some new scales?)


i had to doubl check the scales when it read 1lb 140z i though i was dreaming. yet again for the 3rd time in the afternoon i had broken my perch personal best.


As you can tell i was very happy with this fish, This has so fare been my favourite sesion for me to catch a perch over a pound was pretty cool. but to catch 3 was something pretty speacial to me anyway.


I did catch a couple more small roac and perch after this.

the method i used ws my standard pockidge rig now it you will.

8lb mainline 
3lb hoolink i did switch to 6lb
size 4 hook
maggot feeder.



i am looking foward to the next session as i plan to fish burbrook lake for the first time.

this post is just a few weeks behind........ on Friday te 20th september, i made the short journey to what is my most local lke. First sesson back after 16 years.

On Thursday 29th August, I took my 4 year old son fishing for the first time. It was also my first session in 16 years. I chose to go on my local club water ls in Chippenham. It is know as section 2. I started off in 1 swim with my boy. He was very excited when on his 2nd cast he caught a little chub. I spent the next few hours with just a few knocks on the end of my rod. As he kept reminding me that he a had caught a fish and I was yet to do so. A few hours of passed with only a few knocks on the rod he decided he had enough and wanted to go home. I was determined not to blank on my first session back so I called my wife to come and collect him. I then moved a bit further upstream where I was into a fish on my 3rd or 4th cast.
